Prof. Avraham Hochberg, Ph.D., Chairman
Prof. Hochberg was born in Haifa in 1938. He served in the Israeli Defense Forces, reaching the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He received his Ph.D. summa cum laude from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, and has been a member of the academic faculty for over 48 years.  He has served as Chief Scientific Officer of BioCancell since founding it in 2004.

A biochemist and molecular biologist in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University, Prof. Hochberg is recognized as a world-leading expert on the H19 gene, leading the 19-year ground-breaking research. His list of nearly 150 publications covers seminal contributions in the fields of imprinted genes, H19 gene, IGF2 gene and oncology. He also holds a B.A. in Archaeology.

Avi Barak
Former President and CEO of Yissum Research Development Company of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel), Mr. Barak has extensive experience in business and finance. He served as an investment management advisor, including investment in hi-tech, as well as a director of public companies such as Bezeq (Israel’s leading telephone carrier), and Pelephone (a leading Israeli cellular operator). Other positions included business manager, managing director and Chairman of Kardan Investments Ltd.; representative for Teroil Exploration Ltd. (USA); manager of the Mutual Funds Division of Bank Mizrahi (Israel’s 4th largest bank), as well as manager in a number of Bank Mizrahi branches.

Mr. Barak serves as Chief Executive Officer of BioCancell Therapeutics, and holds a B.A. in Economics and Computer Science from Bar-Ilan University.

Aviv Boim

Mr. Boim is the Chief Executive Officer of Tikcro Technologies, Ltd., which he joined from Orckit Communications Ltd., where he held the position of Chief Financial Officer for nearly ten years. Prior to joining Orckit, Mr. Boim was a banker with BT Alex. Brown Incorporated, an investment banking firm.

Mr. Boim holds a B.A. and an M.A. in economics and management from Tel Aviv University and an L.L.B. from Tel Aviv University Law School.

Dr Nava Epstein, Ph.D., External Director

Dr Epstein is the Director of R&D at the Oncology Institute of Sheba Medical Center (the Middle East’s largest hospital). She previously held scientific and senior positions at the National Institutes of Health, Isolab (Perkin-Elmer), Imagine Medical Technologies and Advanced Nanoparticles Ltd. In 2001, she co-founded the Everest Biotech Fund, serving as its initial General Manager.

Dr Epstein holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Biochemistry from Tel Aviv University, and completed three years of post-doctoral research at Cornell University. She has co-authored over 70 scientific publications.

Ofer Goldberg

Ofer is a Vice-President of Clal Biotechnology Industries, and serves on a number of industry boards contributing his expertise in the field (including Neurosurvival Technologies and Biokine Therapeutics).
Previously, as a technology analyst and equity funds manager for a top Israeli mutual funds management company, Ofer managed equity funds with a total asset value of $200M. As a graduate of the IDF's prestigious Talpiot project, Ofer gained hands-on expertise in R&D and project management.
Ofer holds an MA in Economics and Finance from Tel Aviv University. He also holds a BSc in Physics and Mathematics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel.

 

Jacob Ben Gur, CPA, External Director

Mr Ben Gur has served on a number of boards as chairman, including been Chairman of Pelephone Communication Ltd, Talalyan Information Services Ltd, Marlaz Communication Ltd, and Marnetics Broadband Technologies. He has served on a number of boards as director, including Bezeq, Israel’s leading communications company, and YES, Israel’s satellite television company. He was Managing Partner of Ben Gur, Tannenbaum & Partners, and currently serves as CEO of Marlaz Communication Ltd. His activities in the public sphere include serving on the Kiryat Ono City Council and various professional committees of the Israeli CPA Council.

Mr Ben Gur graduated Ben Gurion University cum laude with a B.Sc. in Accounting and Economics, and an M.Sc. in Economics.

Prof. Alexander Levitzki, Ph.D.

Prof. Levitzki, a professor of biochemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a former visiting professor in a number of leading academic institutions around the world, is a world-renowned cancer researcher who has been awarded a long list of prizes for his research, including the Israel Prize and the Wolf Prize for Medicine. He has served on the Scientific Advisory Boards of such corporations as Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, and as Chairman of the Natural Sciences Division of the Israeli Academy of Sciences. He also recently co-founded NovoTyr Therapeutics, Ltd., a developer of novel inhibitors of insulin-like growth factor receptor.  

 

Prof. Levitzki holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry (Biochemistry and Biophysics) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Weizmann Institute of Science, and an M.Sc. in Chemistry and Bacteriology (Biochemistry) from the Hebrew University.

 

Doron Nevo
Mr. Nevo has founded and served as President and CEO of a number of companies, including KiloLambda Technologies, Ltd., an optical components and subsystems company, NKO, Inc., a company that designed and developed a carrier-grade IP Telephony system platform and established its own IP network, and Clalcom Ltd., where he founded a leading Israeli international telecommunication carrier, Barak, Ltd. Prior to Clalcom, Doron held various positions with Sprint International, Inc. He serves on the Board of Directors of a number of companies in various fields, including Audiocodes, Ltd., Elcom Technologies, Notox, Ltd., Unity Wireless and Bank Adanim.

Mr Nevo holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Technion - Israel's Technology Institute and an M.Sc. in Telecommunications Management from Brooklyn Polytechnic.

Hanoch Rappaport

Mr. Rappaport is the CFO of the Provident Fund of the Employees of the Hebrew University, Ltd. He has previously served as Investment Manager at A. Heifetz & Co., where he was responsible for the investment process, monitoring portfolio companies and maintaining liaison with a network of private and institutional investors, and before that he was a corporate credit officer at leading Israeli bank, Bank Hapoalim.

Mr. Rappaport holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from Bar-Ilan University, an MBA from the Tel Aviv International School of Management and an MBA in Finance from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel.
